I have an extended relative who lives there... honestly I’m concerned for him and his young wife. The fact that he’s armed and has his Illinois FOID is little consolation.

I think they were planning some kind of trouble the way they approached in and surrounded him. Taunt him and knock the bike over, rob him, beat him?
It also looked like Leto fired before the teens committed any criminal act or uttered any criminal threat, but they were in arms’ reach.
I would guess he has been attacked before.
The way they approached him is exactly how those teenage carjackers who dragged the woman to death in New Orleans approached her.

I spotted the sarcasm immediately because that was my first thought as well.

The first one he shot appears to have been unwilling to back off.

These people did not need to approach him. They came to him.
