I didn’t hear “Going to a Go-Go” until long after it faded from the charts because I was in Germany during its chart run in early 1966. You couldn’t hear it on the radio—it didn’t make it onto the German charts and the Armed Forces Network (AFN) station that served US military personnel played only Adult Contemporary songs, and rarely was a Top 40 tune able to sneak onto the playlist.
Another one by the Clash:
Hold On, I'm Coming!--Sam & Dave (1966)

RE: Johnny B. Goode song choice with Chuck Berry and then the Grateful Dead.
Berry was out there where no one knew what “rock n roll” was or if it would be a fad that lasted a year as many confidently predicted. Because of him groups like the Grateful Dead could do covers ten years later.
Both versions have their qualities.
Thanks GSW ((((Hugs))))
LOL
Many listeners thought it said “take the weight off Fanny.”
Not off Annie.
Like ones who heard the 60s hit Running Bear and thought it said running bare. Johnny Preston in 1960.
