Many years ago, after my freshman year in college I had a summer job working for Dick Mountjoy while he was in his first term for the CA assembly.
The job was to answer the public phone number in the local office which was mainly used by constituents to let the Assemblyman know that they didn’t like something going on in Sacramento. Every morning I got a “log” to tick off the “in favor’ or “opposed” to a list of the most common issues, and was told to write down to the best of my ability any other concerns that weren’t on the list.
This was so long ago that fax machines were whiz-bang technology, but I would fax that tally sheet to the Sacramento office every evening. I can’t say that he read them, but at least they went to a lot of trouble to keep their finger on the pulse of the district.
So probably it varies, but at least some of them put some weight on constituent feedback.
It also helps to be a donor if you can, which generally assures some level of access at least to staff.
I’m not down with “no taxes on tips”.
They are not special and many wait staff I know make $50-$75K and a few well over $100K
Tax em like anyone else.
Why the carve out?
I’m all for these tax cuts and everything, but it feels an awful lot like we’re squealing with joy over getting a few crumbs from Master’s table. We are grossly overtaxed in this country, by people who are largely thieves and degenerates, quite often to fund programs that are hostile and destructive to our culture, people and way of life. I’d take these tax cuts as a downpayment on the repeal of the income tax and the abolishment of the IRS, but only to that end would I consider this anything more than cheap pandering.
Americans need to re-adjust their frame of reference regarding whether the people serve the government or the government serves the people.
Going to be a battle lobbyists verses Trump?.
Cue tune Pink Floyd - Money
Hell, I’d be happy if they’d enforce the Bruen decision and toss governors who sign illegal gun control laws into prison for deprivation of rights under color of law.
Whatever happened to, “Law of the land?” The commies dropped to their knees screaming demented prayers to this with Roe v Wade for 50 years, but Bruen is completely ignored.
The silencer issue along with national reciprocity, and other 2A infringements would be gone if they’d do this. Innocent lives would be saved, too.
Guess we’ll just have to wait and see...
Enemy quarterlies hit like a freight train. Just another reminder how much I detest the federal government. Especially seeing fat illegals in line at the grocery store buying a cart of food with an EBT card.
Tax cuts and adding debt when the country spends 20% of our income on paying the interest on our 40t of debt? And we have to borrow to pay for the tax cuts?
“Why the carve out?”
The hourly varies in some states i.e. Texas is $2.15.... so the tips, in essence, make up for the low hourly.
At least 1 million deported annually? After Biden just let 20 million in and we already had 30+ million here before that?
Half a drop in a big bucket.
“Half a drop in a big bucket.”
And that coming from a mister drop.
De-listing silencers isn’t perfect.
It’s still a win. It is, in the words of the demented Chuck Schumer a “good first step” ... just in the opposite direction from what the demented Chuck Schumer would approve.
Posobiec was trying to spin the bill today as a deportation bill, referring to all the money we’d save with mass deportations. But they’d need 10x their planned max rates of deportation to make a real difference.
Oh, I agree.
Watching the commie heads go splodey will be rewarding, too.
Same rate in California
Not gonna get any dispute whatsoever from me. It makes the blood boil.
Elections in November 2026. So I stand corrected. The election is in 17 months. This do nothing pork feeding GOP congress will pass this and do nothing else.
After all, they passed the self named “Big Beautiful Bill”... so how dare we ask for more?
They will not remove taxes on SS. Check in with me November 1 , 2026 and let me know if they did. I already know the answer.
Repubs only fund pork, and fought the last SS reform tooth and nail.
It doesn’t matter how many times you post this, it is still wrong. The Big Beautiful (bloated budget busting) bill is a reconciliation bill. It has elements of both an authorization bill AND an Appropriations Bill. As a reconciliation bill, it only requires the majority of the Senate to pass.
Increasing our Federal Debt by $3,100,000,000,000 is not a conservative value.
A worthless Republican pablum so they can say they fixed SS taxes.
4k off the top of taxable income, for ONLY THREE YEARS. That will lower taxes a fraction of that. 1000-1500 at most. A person with a 50k income will see taxes drop by a whopping $500.
“Beneficiaries may have up to 85% of their benefits subject to taxes if they have more than $34,000 in combined income individually, or more than $44,000 if they are married and file jointly.
Up to 50% of their benefits may be taxed if their combined income is between $25,000 and $34,000 for individual taxpayers, or between $32,000 and $44,000 for married couples.”
It’s 4000 deduction off of taxable income through Tax year 2028. That’s it. The sparrow farted....
