From what I’ve seen from the new Google VEO ver3 Hollywood has a much bigger problem on their hands...

Now if only somebody could find a way to scare away TV and film actors.

Will they pass a law stating movies in California? They sure have a lot of other laws that extend far beyond their boarders.

Movies and TV shows will mostly disappear from California in the next decade. The costs are simply too high and that is not going to change.

It won’t disappear completely, but CA simply can’t compete with the high costs of business, housing, and everything in the state.

If anyone thinks this can’t happen, New York City was once the king of movies until it moved to CA in the 20’s.

Pretty soon, only illegals and movie stars will be able to afford to live there. Normal people are increasingly getting tired of the freaks and weirdos non-stop...

It seems odd this can happen.

The people who run the entertainment industry are liberal.

California has liberal laws regarding labor, environmental regulations, business regulations, etc. — exactly the same types of laws and regulations the liberals who run the entertainment business would like to see imposed on everyone.

Yet when confronted with the types of laws they profess to be in favor of those same business executives seek to move productions to places without the laws they are in favor of.

I don’t get it.

Watched Winchester 73 last night. A real Hollywood Western masterpiece, shot in Tucson, Az.

I wish they’d still make good movies like that. No swearing, no drugs, no sex, maybe some violence with the bar brawl and shootout scenes but...no blood and guts.

Just a thoroughly good movie.

Oh, Hollywood, wake up and stop woking up.

“This growth has not been enough to offset the decline in revenue and demand from movies, broadcast, television, and cable,”

My use of big entertainment as a whole has been flatlining for about 7 years now. All the revenue I poured into it over many decades I don't think has been replaced.

Let them go back to NYC; it’s already messed up, overprived. If Hollywood ever decided to move into some Smalltown USA, the property values wouls ruin it for people who had lived there all their life. From my understanding, this is somwhat like it happened in Colorado. People who had lived most of their lives there simply couldn’t afford it anymore. Don’t need that heappening in our “flyover” country.

Nonsense - people love high taxes.

Don’t you ever watch any movies set in California?

I’m surprised Newsom hasn’t decreed that all movies and TV shows shot in Californaia can only use EVs, ICE vehicles are not allowed. /s

Hollywood is UNIONIZED, so it makes sense that nothing would get done there.

NYC still has the capital and stock markets based there; those should have moved a long time ago, but so far that hasn't happened.

Basically, things have not gotten bad enough for a critical mass to move out. Maybe some day, but not so far.

So, the older folks who work in the industry (not talking about the high profile actors and directors and producers per se) have lived here for 20-40 years. The key grips, sound people, lighting, even drivers... They mostly own their homes and have low mortgages or paid off mortgages. Their cost of living is relatively low. The work is not always steady but if they have been working a couple of decades they probably continue to get work when it comes.

The younger people, they are screwed. Pretty much all across America, but especially in California. It is completely unaffordable to raise a family and even if you are single the whole “have 2 roommates” thing gets old after a while. They simply cannot get a decent place to live for under $2500 a month and that’s just a tiny apartment way, way outside the city. The commute sucks for them. The work is not steady. The gas and electricity and more - they need to be making $6k a month just to get by, and put nothing aside. It’s crazy. Yes they can get by on less if they split the rent and utilities. Lots of immigrant families do just that but white natives, they are not accustomed to such a life with many people and generations all splitting a home.

That means the production companies will want to go to places where people can afford to work for less. The whole “rebates” thing is a bit of a scam. Why do we want to give them 60%-80% of the production budget back to them in cash to make a movie? Do they give 80% of the cost to make anything else in this state? Does the state get $60-80% ownership of the product? Sure, some big companies get certain tax breaks but even that is a scam. I despise the entire concept. I wish someone would give me 80% of my costs back in the form of rebates. Sheesh. So I don’t give a crap. They make junk product for the most part (occasionally we get a rare gem film or TV show but usually those are not even made in California).

California is screwed. I figure in 2 years or less I am out of here. Born, raised, educated well... and can no longer stand it.
