If push comes to shove, never doubt the Iranian ability to block the straight.

That was the intelligence problem my class was assigned at Intelligence Chief's school. Needless to say, the Navy teachers and Marine Corps students disagreed, reflecting the difference in their mindset.

And never doubt the USA’s ability to reopen it.

Is that the one where the Iranian air defense system was destroyed?

As they have shown the world once before, you can only do so much with a sunken navy.

I’ll remind you that it wasn’t the Yemeni Navy that shut down the Red Sea.

No, it was Joe Biden. Expect the Red Sea to be reopened under new leadership.

No, we are not talking about putting ships on the islands. The article has NOTHING to do with Iran’s so called navy. It’s about this!

Air Defense Coverage: Complete
With SAMs like:
➡️ Bavar-373-II (300 km)
➡️ S-300PMU-2 (200 km)
➡️ Khordad-15 (120 km)
Iran can completely blanket Gulf airspace —from its own coastline in the north to Gulf states in the south.

Choking Off US Airpower

From these islands, Iran can target:
✈️ Al Dhafra Air Base (UAE)
✈️ Ground aircraft flying out of US bases in Bahrain, Qatar & Kuwait

Effectively denying US warplanes access to the Hormuz Strait in a conflict.

And This!

Anti-Ship Missiles: The Game-Changer

With systems like:
🚀 Abu Mahdi (600 km)
🚀 Khalij Fars (300 km)
🚀 Qader (300 km, widely deployed)

Iran extends its reach to US bases in Doha & Bahrain, even threatening CENTCOM HQ & the US Fifth Fleet.

The Iranians won’t use those assets, just their patrol boats, right? Geesh!

And the USA has no capabilities to do anything about it.

Be afraid be very afraid.

but America today isn’t the same

Much of it isn't. But much of it is more "the same" than it has been since the 1940s.

If I were Iran, I wouldn't be depending on the unity of their populace, of which a large chunk is way more worldly than their corrupt, despised, intrigue-ridden, Neanderthal government.

Air Defense Coverage:

You left out Iran's mighty Qaher F313 'stealth fighter in your list. Ha ha. One doesn't have to sink an island to destroy it's offensive and defensive capabilities. Iran has never had particular success with their missiles. Remember the great fun that we all had on FR with the photoshopped missile launches from Iran? Granted they may finally have some halfway decent knock-off SAMs now, albeit unproven. Given their penchant for exaggerating, it is unlikely that the Bavar is everything they say it is. But even if it is, it can still be knocked out at standoff range. If only Iran could turn their bluster into actual capabilities they would be pretty formidable. Remember Iran's indigenous stealth fighter that turned out to be too small to fit either an engine, weapons or a pilot in? Talk is cheap. How many of the 300 Iranian missiles fired at Israel actually hit their targets? Northrop Grumman has a few anti radiation variants that should easily neutralize anything Iran has to offer, not to mention the new Lockheed hypersonic versions and whatever the United States Space Force has up there.

Choking Off US Airpower:

We don't need to launch attacks from those airbases.

Anti-Ship Missiles: The Game-Changer

It might be a game changer if we needed ships to destroy Iran's island capabilities. We don't.

According to your strategy, we need to cower in fear and allow Iran to build up even more offensive capabilities for them to misuse. We should surrender to the mullahs now before we make them not like us. What part of "Death to America don't you understand?
Your strategy might have worked with the school bully that you gave all of your lunch money to but it won't work with a belligerent islamic nation that is intent on bringing forth their Mahdi. Reason is not in play when apocalypse is the goal. Only extermination of the Iranian leadership will do when confronting this existential threat. Fortunately, we currently have the leadership with the needed resolve to deal with this adversary when we need to. Geesh indeed!
