The huge majority of those folks have anger and control issues. They will flip out at the drop of a hat. Could be something as simple as you accidentally using the wrong pronoun.

That happened to me a few years ago. I was talking to a store clerk who had a day’s growth of beard. Obviously a man. I called him “sir” (I’m polite that way).

Well, he evidently considered himself to be a woman. “I’m a ma’am”, he said angrily.

I wasn’t going to get drawn into any kind of discussion with him. Nope, no upside to that. But plenty of downside. Time to smoothly disengage. That’s the ticket.
