MORE IDEAS:

* Sell off unpaid federal loans, allowing private bill collectors to retrieve as much as they can of the hundreds of billions of dollars lent by taxpayers to corporations, small businesses, students and others, but were never repaid.

* Give the president the power to impound funds that were appropriated by Congress but went unspent by federal agencies.

* Incentivize federal employees to participate in identifying waste and suggesting innovative ways to save money. Give them a 15% finders’-fee bonus for every dollar saved.

* Repeal President Biden’s executive order placing diversity directors in every government agency. Their salaries and benefits run to millions of dollars annually.

* Stop all federal loan and grant programs to universities that have endowments of more than $1 billion unless they freeze tuition.

* Institute a 10% spending cut across the board, including defense (but exempting Social Security payments). Follow it with a nine-month zero-based budgeting exercise that requires justification for each new expenditure. Let these bureaucrats defend their jobs.

* Lay down the law to debt-laden states like New York and Illinois: No federal bailouts are coming — get your fiscal house in order!

* Defund sanctuary cities and states that are violating federal immigration laws.

* Move government agencies out of Washington, DC, and its surrounding suburbs. Put them where their work is most relevant: Send the Environmental Protection Agency to Flint, Mich., the Department of Energy to Pittsburgh, Penn., or Dallas, Tex., the Department of the Interior to Montana.

* Fire those 30,000 new IRS agents that were hired under Biden’s misnamed Inflation Reduction Act.

* Cut the Department of Education budget in half and send the remaining money to low-income parents in certified failing school districts to give their children alternative learning options ( actually I prefer the Dept. of Education to be totally cancelled, but since it was established by law, it would require an act of congress to do that ).

* Stop all federal subsidies to any individual with an income of more than $1 million and any company with a market cap of more than $1 billion.

* Open non-environmentally sensitive federal lands to the mining of critical minerals, bringing in billions in royalties and lease payments.

* End the corrupt minority-ownership scam that supposedly ensures “diversity” in federal contracts, but only drives up construction project costs.

* End all foreign aid programs and all funding of the IMF and World Bank. Instead, airdrop copies of Milton Friedman’s “Capitalism and Freedom” into poor countries whose struggling people most need its message.

Once upon a time we had a democrat senator from Wisconsin named William Proxmire. Every year he would announce his “Golden Fleece Award” for the biggest most ridiculous waste of money in the budget that year. He retired in 1989 iirc, and the award went with him. Elon should bring it back.

One “winner”, behavioral scientist Ronald Hutchinson, sued Proxmire for $8 million in damages in 1976.[7][8] Proxmire claimed that his statements about Hutchinson’s research were protected by the Speech or Debate Clause of the United States Constitution. The Supreme Court of the United States ruled, in Hutchinson v. Proxmire,[9] that the protection of speech and debate of lawmakers in the Constitution did not shield Proxmire from liability for defamatory statements made outside of formal congressional proceedings. The case was later settled out of court.[10] Proxmire continued to present the award following the suit.[11]

An hour after taking office, he issues the following Executive Order:

As of tomorrow morning, every Federal agency except the military and Social Security, will see their budgets cut by 10%. Those savings will be immediately applied to the debt. Administrators will be expected to provide equal or better service than before. If you cannot do this, I will find someone who can. Have a nice day.

It’s time we took the PENNY PLAN seriously. Sean Hannity has been pounding the table on this for years.

The Penny Plan is a budget proposal originally introduced by Senator Connie Mack III (R-Florida) and later championed by other Republican lawmakers like Rand Paul as a straightforward approach to reducing federal government spending and addressing the budget deficit.

The basic premise of the Penny Plan is simple:

For every dollar the federal government currently spends, the government would reduce spending by one cent (hence “Penny Plan”) each year for several consecutive years. This gradual reduction would theoretically lead to significant budget savings over time without immediately dramatic cuts to government services.

Specifically, the plan typically proposed:

* Reducing total federal spending by 1% (one penny) per year
Applying this reduction across most federal budget categories.

* Continuing this reduction until the federal budget reaches a target balance or deficit level

The plan was designed to be relatively painless compared to more radical budget-cutting proposals, spreading reductions over time and avoiding sudden, potentially disruptive spending cuts.

Proponents argued it would allow government agencies to find efficiencies and eliminate waste gradually.

While the plan has been proposed multiple times, it has not been enacted into law.

This would be immensely helpful on so many different levels.

Start with zero based budgeting. Then demand that all departments pass their annual audits or heads will roll. Prosecute theft and misappropriation to the fullest extent. Folks need to know there will be serious consequences for doing a crappy job.

* Incentivize federal employees to participate in identifying waste and suggesting innovative ways to save money. Give them a 15% finders’-fee bonus for every dollar saved.

Great idea.

Also go through all the 'sweetheart giveaway deals" to weed out the worst. For example: Medicare Advantage Insurance Companies receive $100,000 per year per senior signed up for their medicare advantage program. Then they give crap care when the care is needed most. Whoever made that deal is stupid or a crook...

“ Incentivize federal employees to participate in identifying waste and suggesting innovative ways to save money. Give them a 15% finders’-fee bonus for every dollar saved.”

Already have a program like that.

“Move government agencies out of Washington DC”

85% of the Federal government is already outside of Washington DC.

“Fire those 30,000 new IRS agents”

This one is kind of fake news since there are no new IRS agents. The 85,000 number never was going to be agents anyway and those are people they wanted to hire over the next 7 years. I agree do not hire them and instead make the tax code simpler to encourage more compliance.

I would encourage instead of just cutting departments, we actually take some time and find out exactly what they do. Keep the parts that are beneficial and get rid of what is not. All of these departments do many different things and some of them are likely good things. Eliminate some of the cabinet level department heads by putting them under the Department of the Interior where they probably belong.

Are those your ideas or from the article (which I, in true FReeper style, did not read)?

Does it tell where to submit ideas? I might have a couple.
