The U-2s have been there since the 1960s and the SR-71s would have been more of a concern if the gate was considered too close to the runway.
The Air Force closed gates at several bases after a terrorist crashed the main gate at Travis Air Force Base in 2018 in a mini-van rigged with explosives and propane tanks.

After the gate houses were reinforced, fire-proofed, and crash gates were installed, they reopened the gates.
According to the official website https://www.beale.af.mil, the main gate (Schneider Gate) is open 24/7:
Normal Gate Hours
Doolittle Gate: CLOSED
Vassar Lake Gate: 24/7
Wheatland Gate: M-F 5 A.M. - 6 P.M.
Schneider Gate: 24/7
Grass Valley Gate: M-F 6 a.m.-8 a.m. Inbound/Outbound 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. Inbound/Outbound
That means he assaulted the man. He should get sued. He was not in mortal danger, just a twerp mayor who wanted to beat a homeless victim of capitalism. Bully.
After several minutes of searching, I can find nothing that states the mayor’s Party affiliation. Very weird.
FWIW, he’s a retired businessman, so I’d guess Republican.
