I LOVE MY LAND LINE & MY $20 “SLIMLINE” PHONE.
Which Linux phone do you use? I tried the Volla Phone, which can run on both Linux or the proprietary Volla OS. Imported from Germany. But despite assurances from Volla, I couldn’t find a US carrier whose SIM card would work in Volla. So I returned it and bought an Apple.
I’ve also heard of the Pine Phone for Linux, but I haven’t tried it.
If something is free, then you’re the product
I think you and I have chatted before, some of this sounds familiar with the SIM card issue and the Volla phone.
I’m using a Fairphone 4. I put UBPorts on it.
What year/how long ago did you give all of this a try and which specific “Linux” (if you remember) was on there?
I can’t say for certain, but I do think your prior conversation had some impact on me. The reason I say this, is that the very first thing I tried before wiping out and installing Linux was ensuring that the SIM card was working as expected in the new phone. :-)
Its definitely not just a tablet. :-) It makes and receives SMS/MMS/calls, stores and accesses contacts as a first-class function like you would expect a phone to operate.
Plus getting online and watching multimedia and other functionality of that sort.
Make the effort to turn OFF the mobile phone.
Yeah, that is what I am worried about. Drivers and cell compatibility are going to be a challenge.
I use Nord VPN on my Apple, so hopefully that helps. And I have the Apple set to put nothing on Apple Cloud.
Then you’ll want to start with this one, if you start.

It’s old and really cheap(but still new enough to have working 4g), probably the best supported, and these don’t require much but unlocking the bootloader to use the installer which does just about all the work. The installer uses Fastboot underneath but you don’t have to type anything in. Just click and go.

Cool, Thank you!
There is no OFF switch.
They always are listening.
