Although we use democratic processes, the author fails to recognize we are a republic not a democracy. And the electoral college is just one element justifying our republic over a democarcy - the tyranny of the majority. As students of histories of all the governments before them they recognized that at times the “majority” can make for a tyranny over everyone else, in the process squelching what rights everyone is suppose to have.
Only those who would acccept a tyranny care about finding “unity” among the people. Everytime I see the concern for “unity” expressed, I know they are reaching for the tyranny of the majority.
Term limits.
Not the first time this has been proposed. Back around 1969 the magazine ESQUIRE had an article about rewriting the Constitution. In the 1969 version there is no “President of the US” but a “Mr Chairman”. And as usual, NO Second Amendment.
I personally think getting rid of the 2nd is the reason as that was an extremely anti-gun period of time due to the media induced hysteria after the murder of Bobby Kennedy the year before.
is it dumb to prevent a few precincts in Philly to produce enough fraud to throw ALL of the PA electoral votes to the ‘rats?
HELL NO!. I have a better suggestion, why doesn’t southern California secede.
Hey asshole commie. America has never been a democracy. It was created as a Constitutional REPUBLIC.
It’s California, Art. What do you expect? Rational thought? Not likely.
Yep, California.
Still sorry for the 40+% or so of sensible folk who live there.
#16 - Federal Income Tax (1913) - unconstitutional on its face
#17 - Popular vote for US Senators (1913) that gave women the right to vote and electing Senators by Popular Vote - the Senators were supposed to be the voice of their respective State Govts.
#19 - Women got the right to vote (1920) and it's been downhill ever since
#23- Granting votes in the Electoral College to residents of the District of Columbia (196)
#26 - Voting Age reduced to 18 (1971) - put it back to 21
#@27 - Delays laws affecting Congressional salary from taking effect until after the next election of representatives. Big Whup, and a lot of good that does us - thanks for nothing, Newt!
