Oddly I think Walz did not go a real combat zone due to cowardice. He was a political animal and decided it was his time to leave The Guard for his political ambition. I think he is a scum bag for leaving his men he commanded for years. It was his duty to go with them and lead them. He did not. He abandoned duty for political avarice. Perhaps his men were lucky he abandoned them.
