A success indeed! Yes...I heard the “Who the f*** does he think he is?” sentiment expressed quite often.

"The left responds to the right using Alinsky ridicule tactics by saying that the right is full of hate."

Accuse your accuser of your own conduct, thus insulating yourself from such. Also an Alinsky anthem.

I understand. I knew it was rhetorical but had to laugh at the delivery.

I can still remember my dad watching the news when Stockdale was released....he was so proud of him, but his throat was choked up seeing him on tv.

I have lived in San Diego County for almost 30 years. I work for the Navy doing IT stuff. Many years ago, I was doing a dog and pony show at military/industry conference held yearly, on the east and west coast. I had heard Admiral Stockdale was going to be there, signing his book "In Love and War". But, by the time I was able to break away, he had already left. I was so bummed.

However, a couple years later, my sister was in San Diego for work(she was also a Navy employee). She had some free time one day and drove over to Coronado, parked, and went up and knocked on the Stockdale's door. Mrs. Stockdale answered, and she mentioned why she was there. Mrs. Stockdale said--oh, go on in! She had to leave for an appointment, but just let my sister in. :). So, my sister was able to have a nice conversation with him.

That is wonderful. If you go to my web page, you can see how I feel about Stockdale-I so admired him.

I am reading the Bible from front to back for the first time, and I was very impressed with Daniel. When reading it, I thought of Daniel: “He is the guy all boys should want to be when we are men.

Honest. Calm. Upstanding. Rational. Devout. Principled. Loyal.

When I read it, I thought of Admiral Stockdale.

I loved “Love and War”, I need to go out and buy it to listen to.

I think I enjoyed your story of your sister meeting him, because I have always in the back of my mind thought that if I ever had gotten a chance to meet him, it would have been a similar scene.

In 1973, my dad was stationed at a small Naval Communication Station only a few miles from Andrews AFB, and we went over to greet one of the returning planes of POWs.

I really hero-worshiped those guys when I was a kid. I lived over in Yokosuka and Subic from 1967 to 1971, so we were aware. Our parents talked about them occasionally at parties, which I overheard. I don’t know how many non-military kids in the states were aware of the plight of our POWs, but we were. Me and my friends knew their names, their ranks, what they flew, that kind of thing.

I would have loved to

I get it! As you can see, I can’t be objective about the Admiral. I have him on my Freep Page as one of my heroes...always have.
