Someone sent me a link today about Vance explaining his “Cat Lady” comments from 2022, and I started to steam.
For a split second, I knew-I JUST KNEW the video was going to show Vance pulling back, apologizing, and backing down.
But in the time it took me to register the subject of the URL and then click on the link and actually see the video (which is just a few seconds) I knew immediately my involuntary knee-jerk flash was not right.
I realized he wouldn’t back down. He was a Marine. He is a Conservative. And he is pretty bright, that is clear.
As surely as I had just felt an instant conviction of betrayal by a weak kneed Republican as had happened so often in the past, I realized with that instant realization in diametrical opposition that would not be the case.
And it didn’t go away in a flash either.
When Megyn Kelly asked him about it and he gave a calm, conviction-based rational description I was not in the least bit surprised how he approached it and where he stood. That was great.
Additionally, I was absolutely thrilled and delighted to realize my initial reservation way so wrong, and that my human barometer, which I sometimes cannot explain, was so functionally capable in being able to calibrate it and feed the correction it back to me in the blink of an eye.
I am one of those people who occasionally get a feeling when I meet someone, good or bad, and it sticks in the total absence of information or rationality. It is just a gut feeling.
And it is relatively reliable, after more information comes in.
So, yes. Many, many times in my life I have doubted that feeling, and felt it had to be wrong. But in the end, it was almost always proved correct. It was nice to see it in this case, register and self-adjust, right in front of my unseeing eyes. Getting older, you begin to wonder when that computer will become more...sluggish...:)

I could well be wrong, but it seems that the complainers are saying that Vance is just too aligned with Trump. Trump’s biggest weakness in his term was he had to ‘rely on the kindness of Republican strangers’ to fill his government. And we all see how that worked out for him.
The four years between his first and we hope his second term is that he has been able to learn where people in the party stand in regards to the idea of ‘draining the swamp’ and ‘making America great again’.
It may well turn out that not winning in 2020 was in fact a blessing. He has a much better grasp now, of where the people around him really stand. Who’s loyal and who was just along for the power ride.
