Nobody had to “give him a gun”-he had no record, and so could have bought one-he had been into shooting/hunting for a while, etc-but at 20 years old and working food service at a nursing care center he probably didn’t have the money for a nice rifle-so dad bought it.
Not a smart move-but we don’t know what the family dynamics were, was he taking psychotropic drugs like so many other young shooters in recent years etc? Personally, I believe anyone who is taking those drugs should not be able to buy, use, carry a gun-or a taser for that matter-as long as they are on psychotropic drugs and have been diagnosed with a serious mental condition...
Way too many people believe the hype-that those drugs “fix” the problems a mentally disturbed young person has-when actually they can make them worse-the list of warnings/side effects even lays that out, but I guess people don’t read those, so the person becomes the next mass murderer or high-profile assassin...
I agree-legally speaking, the only way that a parent-or anyone else-is responsible for an adult’s behavior is if they are that person’s legal guardian-and that can only happen if the person they are responsible for has been adjudicated incompetent to handle their own affairs by a judge/court of law. I have not read/heard that this shooter’s parents had a guardianship over the son-but nothing about this atrocity makes sense in any case-it looks totally like a paid hit to me, with a “D” on the signature line...
My 1st job after college graduation was as a case worker at a (mostly) independent living facility for high level mentally retarded adults-the guardianship/responsibility issue was one we dealt with all the time that I worked there before becoming a workers comp case manager and going to the private sector-where I’m delighted not to have to ever deal with that stuff again...
Dad bought the DPMS AR-15 5.56 in 2013.
Officer, you can see I have her picture on my desk, so I couldn’t have killed her...you are so right!
And apparently his son had been using it on a pretty regular basis-and at 13-14 years old, we don’t know yet if the parents knew if the kid had violent tendencies, etc...
This story just keeps on getting more insane by the minute.
Ever see a democrat leadership that didn’t work that way.
Note last 3/12 years
Just like roof, “hoof” also started with two plural forms –
“hoofs” and “hooves”. And just like roof, “hoofs” WAS the
dominant one. But “hooves” woke up in the 20th century and
by about 1970, it overtook “hoofs” in usage, and that’s where
it has stayed.
So the parents knew something was up
not automatic as that is a machine gun his rifle was semi big difference
Same page, I believe:
A parent who is so ignorant to the possibility their own child may not be normal and a danger to others - and who does cause harm - is him/herself inherently dangerous and merits:
1. Incarceration
and
2. Sterilization
