Officer Chris Johnson says this was an accident...
- Gun dislodged from the holster and fell to the ground. Accident, maybe.
- Gun struck the ground and discharged one round. Not an accident.
I wonder how long they will try to cover up what manufacture and model firearm this was and if it was original or modified, etc.

Maybe the officer did not have it properly holstered and secured BUT a dropped firearm discharging should never happen. That’s big headlines and warning to firearms owners once we know what firearm and if it was stock or modified.

Yes. There’s not a pistol I own(ed) that would discharge if dropped.

That's old news and I doubt anyone has one of those originally shipped models. In addition to the Sig Sauer P320 full size, which I think is the only model affected, and a bit big for concealed carry. The Taurus PT-111 is reported to have discharge incidents when dropped but I doubt any law enforcement would carry a Taurus PT-111.
It will be interesting to hear what model this was.

I guess we should all test our firearms to see if they will accidentally fire if dropped. Is a 3’ drop an adequate test?

Was it an old-style single action revolver with six rounds in the cylinder?

“Apparently, the Sig Sauer P320 has this problem, “
From your link:
The response further noted that “despite years of litigation and extensive discovery, no one, including plaintiffs’ ‘experts’, have ever been able to replicate a P320 discharging without a trigger pull,

Yes, it looks as if this whole thing is a Lawyer Problem. My Taurus PT145Pro supposedly has a similar problem, but I have never experienced one.

Three people injured by one bullet? Are they sure this was Reno and not Dallas?

“...physical domestic disturbance at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center”
Were the livestock fighting one another or does ‘domestic’ no longer mean what I think it means?

“His holster got caught on the fence as he went over, dislodging his handgun which fell onto the ground. When the gun struck the ground, it discharged a single round.[Emphasis added]”
My vote goes to “got caught on fence” firing the gun.

I ask this in all seriousness, because I am not a firearms guy (I have my pistol and my shotgun and that's that): isn't a LEO's holstered weapon supposed to have the safety on, and doesn't that safety keep the weapon from firing?
TIA!

Retention holster involved?

If I ever had a weapon, I would certainly hurl it into a concrete floor to see if it goes off. Or, carry around a paper weight.
