They don’t want the US or NATO to maintain a presence around the military facilities.
How long before all this equipment is on display in Moscow? Russia is holding back their final big strikes until this equipment hits the ground. This money is better spent on American infrastructure. I do support the money sent to Israel. About Taiwan - nobody cares about it. When was the last conversation you heard about Taiwan? Gaza - Send medical aid, let the Arabs support their own. Why are we responsible for a territory that unleashed rapists and death squads?
It’s so obvious it doesn’t matter. Just like it’s obvious Ukraine will disperse its weapons as much as possible, and will keep hitting Russian refined oil products capacity and storage. And so on, for both sides.
That cuts both ways, though. Russia cannot possibly defend its oil infrastructure. So, then you are looking at repair capacity, and there, Russia has a big problem. I imagine Russian defense industries will come under increasing attack, too. But Russia dares not attack NATO defense industries.
IMO, instead of seeking “leverage” for a border bill that will do nothing useful so long as Biden is in office, I think the border issue should be stand-alone. That more clearly exposes the Dems’ liabilities on the issue for the Nov. election, and they can’t claim they’ve done something about it, while the Pubbies can point to HR2 being denied even debate in the Senate.
As an aside, it must be “interesting” to be a citizen in, say, Moscow, these days. The invasion of Ukraine was supposed to protect Russia from “Nazis”. And every day, the might of Russia is touted in a 5x or 10x way, as we see here from Shoigu and our own Russian tools. Yet successful Ukrainian attacks on Russian infrastructure are becoming a daily occurrence too.
Some “protection”...

Oil price is high these days. Putin always gets aggressive and confident when crude prices are high. Russians are clowns, so they hired western oil companies to build out their oil fields. These Western/European companies left Russia. So maintenance will be bear, plus they will not be able to buy European spare parts for repair.
