It had problems here and there. But you could change the character of the government by voting a new man in. Also you could judge the man by the way his administration performed.
He couldn’t claim policy was beyond his reach.
It also reduced the number of bureaucrats who made government work a lifelong career.
Another reason is that our government is the most indebted entity in all of human history. There is no close second.
We borrow another trillion every 100 days. We are 24 trillion in debt, we have 89 trillion in unfunded entitlements coming at us. Inflation is screaming, Biden and DC have destroyed the world supply chains, the position of the dollar, and our manufacturing. Bitcoin, Gold, Silver, Residential Real Estate are all spiking.
A massive depression/default is very much in the cards.
They would love to pass the baton to Trump and let him be at the helm when we hit the rocks. He can do us a lot of good, but it’s a longshot that he could before a crash.
They might think it’s unavoidable and want to turn him into Herbert Hoover.
What we need is to abolish entire departments and agencies. I doubt very seriously if anyone would even notice some of them are gone.
The only problem I see is the effect on the economy of too many job losses too quickly. Even though it is funded by loans and deficit gooberment is part of the economy in the short term. You gotta break a few eggs to bake a cake. Oh well, get on with it.
They definitely want to dump the Ukraine defeat on Trump.
The top of the food chain from Regime media has been signalling to their NPC’s that Trump is likely to win for several months now.
I think they think they have more to lose with a repeat or even more blatant steal than in 2020.
I think they have decided that they will use Deep State Resistance and GOPe collaboration to tie up Trump like they did in his first term.
If only Americans of that era could have seen where their reforms would lead, they would have never passed them.
Interestingly enough, the assassination of James Garfield accelerated concerns over the spoils system and may have played a role in heightening calls for reform. As you pointed out, it may not have been perfect but at least problems with bad administration could easily be dealt with by voting in a new president. The spoils system might have lead to corruption, but it was less likely to lead to the generational corruption we see now, which is far worse and harder to eliminate.
If you notice, there is less and less accountability for failures in gov't. Since 9/11 there have been more protections for gov't workers than for citizens....in fact, citizens have been made suspects since 9/11.
With Obama and Biden, free speech is under assault and the never-ending quest to disarm citizens is being pushed forward.
Constitutional protects are being weakened, judges are completely out of control and prosecutors are going after political opponents.....but all one sided.
If Trump manages to win, I suspect the will have set the stage for something major to happen that can be blamed on him and that will justify the next stage of this socialist revolution....violence against political opponents.
Hope trump has a fool proof plan to crush them and purge the agencies for good
