Don’t blame evil capitalists. Most of the problem is that, while our machines are getting more productive, our labor force is getting less productive, due to: declining educational achievement; the war on merit; declining use of our common language; the distractions of crime, drugs, and divorce; immigration of the least skilled; and government incentives not to work.
There was a recent surge in companies going to the $15/hr. “living wage”. Now that their employees are making that, those companies have no incentive to give employees another big raise for years to come, especially since they can cut back hours and hire more part timers who don’t qualify for company benefits.
