I would bet that a VPN will circumvent the ban.

Definitely. It proves that teens are much smarter than the politicians who are unaware of VPNs.

It’s not a ban. They shut down access themselves. A VPN costs money, hence at least some leaky attempt at age verification, which was Texas AG’s goal anyway.

VPNs require a credit card.

I have mixed feelings on these types of laws. For one, I oppose third-party age verification that removes anonymity. I believe these have unintended consequences. PornHub today, Twitter tomorrow, which is why Governor DeSantis wisely vetoed Florida's ban on social media use for minors.

On the other hand, I also believe that unlimited, unrestricted access to hardcore pornography is harmful to children.

Anyhow, it's a feel-good, do-nothing law as there's a vast number of porn servers located outside the United States that will snub their nose at Texas. Porn will continue to be easily accessible.

A frustrated Texas was not available for comment…

Hat tip to Garret Morris.

The first amendment does not protect all speech. Delivery of pornography to minors is a good example of unprotected speech.

As if.

Bullcrap. When I was a kid in Texas you couldn’t get a Playboy without a store clerk selling to you. No chance a 12 year old was getting one.
Now a 12 year old can see unspeakable porn on a phone and nobody gets in the way. Texas was much better back then.

And somehow the Founders and nobody up through the next 200 years thought the 1st Amendment protected massive amounts of unspeakable porn.
So you are incorrect. Not a single founding father would have been against this Texas law. If anything they would oppose it as obscenity even after 18.
