I had heard years ago that the Phillipines was a good place to be. Cheap to live there. Probably pretty laid back living, but now I’m not sure. Not certain that Americans are welcome there anymore.

I think there are lots of small places that are probably safe. One has to remember what they would expect for what they could afford. Much of the really affordable status will depend on whether or not you are retired & what you will have to live on. Some of the laws in some states really make it fairly affordable for a retired person, but some make it near impossible unless you have plenty of savings or money coming in.
