Well that isn’t remotely what Lyndon Johnson was doing.
Lyndon Johnson was running for a 2nd term until the serious antiwar challenge in his own party took a chunk out of his hide. He quit the race only when he saw that he was going to lose the nomination.
Gene McCarthy, the half-serious antiwar candidate, pulled 40% of the New Hampshire primary to LBJ’s 50% in March. And when the much more serious Bobby Kennedy entered the race Johnson withdrew in favor of VP Humphrey.
Not comparing motives. Just both should do the honorable thing and step aside. Simply too much baggage between the 2 of them and it’s time to move on.

I could only stand to listen to half of it. I really despised LBJ back then. He was a horrible president that stuck us with the monstrously big and instrusive government that we live with today.
At least it began with him. The establishment Republicans helped him do it. Nixon added even more agencies that plague us to this day. You’d have to go back to Eisenhower or maybe JFK to find an administration that wasn’t committed to interfering into every aspect of your life.

That's not how the electoral college works. The electoral college does not meet in one location, hence they could not be denied any seats. If Trump were kept off the ballot in Illinois, Biden would win the electors, who would meet in Springfield to cast their votes which would then be sent to Congress. If the GOP holds a majority in Congress (both houses), they could vote to refuse to accept those electoral votes, but that is not automatic.
