Apparently some brush was involved too. And once the fires get into built-up areas.
(I have a lot of respect for grass / brush / range fires. Used to watch them march around the Flint Hills area in Kansas from another hilltop, as a kid. Later I got to fight one in IL. Flames freaking 20+ ft. high in a field of grass and weeds — several foot tall weeds, I’ll grant you....)
We have people on here (FR) who are just nuts when it comes to any kind of evidence vs. what they want to believe. Like the ones discounting “grass fires”. I’d like to set them out for just a moment in front of the grass fire in a field near my P’s old place, many moons ago. Dry grass and weeds 6+ feet tall (both) pushed by a maybe 30 mph wind. Flames 20+ ft. high. I can’t imagine if it was 80 mph. (Square of the velocity, right?) The thing that “saved us” was that both my Dad and our neighbor kept a wide strip (we kids used it to play football) mowed well into that property.
(Dad was a Forester and fought quite a few fires in his youth.)
đ. I just canât on here somedays.
My dad used to burn fields when we first moved on to our 10 acres 40 years ago. Knee high grass not even dead and light winds almost got away from us.
Itâs so much more likely to be some heretofore unknown âdirected energy weaponâ used on a civilian population for..what? A 15 minute city? Lahaina already was a 15 minute city.
