Put another way, if you’re able to make your existing tank water heat run out of hot water by running your shower long enough....

...you aren’t going to be able to use a tankless water heater without a larger gas supply line or a larger electric circuit, as applicable.

Tankless water heaters do NOT have some magical ability to heat water any faster than one with a tank, given the same gas or electric input.

“They actually want us dead.”

Absolutely. Lack of hot water can be a serious health issue. Sanitizing utensils and hands with hot water about doubled man’s life expectancy.

I’ve seen radiant hot water flooring using hot water heaters controlled in series, using closed loop glycol. Then in summer you switch over to a chiller pump. Same storage and distribution tanks, but cooling versus heating function. It works really well.

Oh Goody
Now the government is going to ‘fix’ water heaters, just like they ‘fixed’ toilets.
I guess we can expect a lot of cold & like warm showers in the near future.

Condensation on the floor isn’t a problem? When things are cold, you get condensation, especially in the humid south.

I’ve actually seen this happen just on a regular floor, not one that’s being intentionally cooled.

They will save billions i’m sure. They just won’t heat any water. Like the dishwasher that use a thimble of water. SO you actually use 20 gallons of water to pre wash your dishes. Engineer to bureaucrat. The question is not how much water the machine uses it is how much water do the person use to wash the dishes. And if they don’t get hot water what type of chinese contraption will people try to use to actually get hot water.

There’s all kinds of radiant schemes out there. In this environment water heaters don’t provide enough fire power. plus if they were electric no one could afford to run them. 43 cents p/kwhr winter rates.

The floor around the toilets eventually gets soft from condensation moisture.

They did this a few years back. The only way to increase efficiency is to super insulate the heater. They did this and the price of an electric hot water heater jumped from $200 to $400. But there is an even bigger issue. The heaters became larger. And they often no longer fit in the spaces that were designed for them. And the spaces can’t always be resigned as there might not be any room to do so.

The difference in putting more insulation in them is going to be extremely minuscule as they are already close to the max. And the price will jump even more.

These authorities just love to come up with ways to push their authority. They are really causing pain out in the real world. Soon many people will have to go without hot water.

People have such short memories”

“The higher the EF, the more energy efficient the appliance. In April of 2015, the Department of Energy updated minimum standards for EF ratings on virtually all gas, electric, propane, and oil fired water heaters. These new water heater efficiency standards could change your next water heater purchase.”

And the condensing heaters need all kinds of fancy flues to exit the condensed leavings.

—”They use a collection tank and lift pump into the sanitary sewer.”

A greywater heat recovery system???

I have looked at them long and hard and concluded they would considerable maintenance to achieve listed efficiency.
The soap, hair,dirt... would accumulate on the heat exchanger coils lowering efficiency.
Yes, chemicals, pressure washer, lots of hours... Not cheap.

We have a hundred-year-old house and look to minimize payments to the utility company.

A Weil Mclain Ultra 94% efficient for domestic hot water via indirect heater, and heating the house with what looks like a mile of PEX running ~ 100F. Heat pump for AC and hybrid heating.

We installed it all ourselves with some help from our engineer daughter and HVAC son-in-law.

I performed a comprehensive phrase search of the Constitution.
Zero results for “water heater”.
I’ll next search the USSC case documents archive to see if the Court has issued a Constitutional opinion on “water heaters”.

Have you searched in the Constitution’s penumbra? /also sarc (maybe?)
