This one is almost up there with “Leave Brittany Alone!”
Most folks don’t realize it but roofing is damn tough work!
We moved to NJ from PA around 1955 when my dad transferred from Bell of Pa to Bell Labs at Murray Hill ( as far as I can recall ... I was just a kid. )
My mom hired on as a Technical Assistant, and ended up working with the big names ... i.e. Penzias, Wilson and Hamming, and my dad transferred to Holmdel. My mom was taking “night school” courses to get a degree to allow her advancement to a rank commensurate with her actual functional position. I don’t even recall how all that worked out, but I do recall that I met Hamming.
Anyway, we were never destitute.
And the wealthy became OBSCENELY wealthy. I call it transfer of wealth. Women were duped, just like our black brothers and sisters were duped.
keep voting democrat sweetie...
It’s just a guess, but I think she will have a hard time finding a husband.........
That’s the way it used to be and people did just fine.
Yep.
My grandmother’s house stayed that way til she died in the early 70’s.
Ringer washer, vacuum and a stove were her only appliances. Few convenience foods existed. She made all her noodles and sausage by hand. Canned her veggies.
No time to work outside the house!
We married young. Waited nearly 8 years to have our first, and then two more shortly thereafter.
My wife, a tall, attractive, smart blonde was a very successful pharmaceutical rep. She tried to work for about 18 months after our first. She was miserable.
We did the math.
Like you wrote, we were clearing *maybe* $950/mo all in.
We sold our big house, moved into a nice, more modest 3 BR cape cod with a fenced back yard on a cul de sac.
She LOVED it. We LOVED having her home.
That was 37 years ago.
Just. Do. It.
“Now, let’s talk about women voting....”
I’m all in favor of that.

Sarcasm, right? Schlafly worked a full-time job while putting herself through college, as far as I know.
Feminism is the beginning of the break up of the family and “it takes a village” meme.
Is she tired because she actually has to work as an adult—either at home, in the field or both, or because she’s lazy and expects everyone else to work to support her life of leisure?
My hub’s eldest daughter who is mid-’50s has a Biomedical degree, she just got a job working for the CEO of a cancer Lab company, it is in 2 states now, and plans 2 more expansions, Her hub is retired and works at Lowes. They like the high lifestyle. Her husband wouldn’t have to work, he likes to be busy.
The fact is that ~3/4s of Americans lived on farms prior to WW2. Mom hadda get up before daylight to make, from scratch, the breakfast the men folk would eat before they headed into the field.
Breakfast over. She hadda clean all that mess and then do laundry. That meant washing in one of those wringer washers and then hanging the clothes on the line outside.
Then she hadda start lunch. From scratch. Repeat above.
Men folk back in field, mom starts doing housework. Scrubbing floors. Shaking rugs outside. Etc.
Start supper. Catch the chicken. Kill it. Pluck feathers. Etc.
Women worked hard, if they did their job competently.
It’s a real mess. Dating apps have made it worse. YouTube is rife with videos of women with children that chose to divorce, because they “just weren’t feeling it anymore”, only to find that men don’t want divorced mothers. The legal landscape is toxic for men. All of the 1% men date the 20 somethings because they’re the only ones that all the young women want, because all these women have been brainwashed to think they’re a 10, so 90% of men in their 20’s can’t get a date. Then the 20 something women complain that the 1% men won’t commit to them - why should they? There’s plenty more lining up.
All of this is toxic for everyone. So women end up single, alone, with the kids, and *must* also work just to make ends meet - even with child support. Congratulations feminism! The men also pay the price. The guy that is willing to love, protect, and provide can’t find a woman because he isn’t 6’ tall, has a 6 pack, and doesn’t have a 6 figure salary (666!). Or he does, only for her to divorce once the ‘fantasy’ lost its luster - which is exactly what my son is currently going through.
...and people wonder why the birth rate is in decline.
Increased mobility is a factor as well.
Most people were born, lived and died not far from where they were born. So the pickings were limited, it was like musical chairs, you had to get someone ‘good enough’ lined up by the time you reached the age of 20, or most likely you’d be left out. No woman wanted to be called a ‘spinster’ or an ‘old maid’.
Now of course people move around, and even long-distance relationships are a thing, so there are a ‘lot of fish in the sea’, or so they think.
In other words, your true housewife is not going to have that much time to sit on the couch eating bon-bons while watching "As The World Turns."
I've been married nearly 40 years and I always would have liked having my wife stay at home. For most of my career, we had that option as I made more than enough to support it financially. But society in general, especially from the 1980s on, has looked down on "stay at home" women and unfortunately my wife always felt like she had to be out there working, even though we really didn't need the extra money.
There were a few years when she did stay home (when the children were little) and those were the best years of our marriage, even though money was a little tight, as I was still early in my career. I really liked the arrangement however, it was great knowing that the kids and house was being taken care of while I was at work.
When I was home on nights and weekends during that time, I encouraged her to get out of the house and do some things like socialize with friends and have some private time for herself. That's important as well.
THIS SNOWFLAKE IS “TIRED” AT AGE 22 ??????
I AM getting ready to go out & spray Russian thistles ( out of control with winter’s weather) with 400+++ feet of hose & sprayer. That paddock is 440 X 130...this is 3rd time attacking with weed killer spray.
