This one is for all the marbles

I agree, based on my understanding that they want to charge him under the Insurrection Act, which could by way of the 14th amendment make Trump ineligible for running for federal office.

I still remember the day of January 6 vividly. I thought it was incredibly ignorant of Trump to protest the electoral college, when all the voters and votes had already been quantified, as well as Pence's intentions, in advance. It was a fruitless and pointless expression of his vanity.

I knew at the time it wouldn't turn out well, and it didn't. Hundreds were left to rot in jail, he got impeached, and now he will face trial.

Is all that excessive, probably. But, you cause a riot in DC on the semi-sacred day of the electoral college vote, you should expect things to go bad for you, in the end.

If a Democrat had done that, we would be calling for blood.

No, it would make him ineligible to occupy any office.

There's nothing in the Constitution about "running".

Having gone this far, I think they will try for insurrection or treason and send him to ADX Florence with all communication banned.

I'm sure many radical Democrats want that, but I don't think that's how it will ultimately turn out.

Not that I think Trump will mount a competent legal defense, he seems incapable of doing much more than stirring up his base, but I don't think even the evil Democrats who could ultimately hold his fate in their hands, will send him to prison.

At least not at first. He would be confined to house arrest, unless he misbehaves (possible). They will wait until even MORE Republicans have finally lost patience with Trump, before they actually try to incarcerate him. We're not there yet, and are actually a long way from it, which is why I believe this is ultimately how it will play out.

"Locking him up" in a penitentiary isn't something that America will accept, just yet. So that won't happen initially. It might, eventually, if he tries to push for an ACTUAL revolution, which I wouldn't rule out completely. But I don't expect it.

“If a Democrat had done that, we would be calling for blood.”

If a Democrat had done that, it would already have been swept under the DC rug and enough media distractions dropped that it’d be forgotten about. You know how this works in our new Marxist Republic.
