don’t understand why people go so far off shore...
That was truly horrific
I could have gone through my whole life without reading that story.
As a father and grandfather it was a kick in the gut. “Papa!”
When I was that young man’s age I swam in that sea. It was quite beautiful. Didn’t realize it could be so dangerous.
Those sharks also got past the Straits of Tiran. Quite the travelers.
Yeah, don’t think I’ll be watching that video.

I grow tired of trying to hot link on this forum. One time it works, the next time pffft.
Bring plenty of tartar sauce.
Why post this? You must have no sense of simple propriety. Let such sad violence stay in its own moment.
If he didn’t leave Russia, he would have been drafted into Putin’s army and may have gotten killed in action on the battlefields of Ukraine.
I was in the MFO in 85/86 at South Camp near Sharm el Sheikh. Nama Bay was closest to our camp, about a mile north. just before you walked down to Nama Bay was a place we called the Cliffs. There were little natural platforms of rock at 20, 30, and 50 feet above the water where we would dive in.
Later in the tour I caught a notice on the beach bulletin board: “Hammer Head Spawning season, don’t make big splashes in the water!”
I never went back in again.
I can’t watch, but ping.
“Swim away, swim away! Quick! A shark!”
If you are in deep water, this is a mistake. You’ll never outswim a shark. Better to turn and face it and try to hit it in the nose, poke it in the eye, kick it, anything to make it think you aren’t the easiest meal in the ocean.
I can’t either.
“I’d never swim the ocean nor even go boating in it.”
I’ve done both and I don’t regret the experience. Even ran into a shark when I was snorkeling. Luckily it was a baby that was about 12 inches long. But I didn’t stick around until the mama came back :)
The description was bad enough. I’m not watching a video.
I was at South Camp in ‘89. Same experience- had to be really careful diving there.
There are fresh-water sharks, too. Actually there are salt water sharks that can adapt to fresh water.
The most notable among these is the bull shark. What's notable about them is that they're one of the most dangerous of sharks. The males have the highest testosterone or any animal on earth, which means they have a constant case of the ass.
And they don't mind fresh water. They've been found as far up the Mississippi as St Louis, and 2600 miles up the Amazon.
Lago de Nicaragua is full of them. Man-eating fresh-water sharks, 120 miles from the ocean. They're bull sharks but they've lived in that lake for so long they've differentiated into a new sub-species.
So if you think the fresh water is going to save you, think again. You probably don't even want to go near a water spigot. In fact, I'd recommend you give up drinking tap water and switch to soda-pop, but not Woke-a-Cola.
Or gin. That's what WC Fields would do.
I don’t know but I wouldn’t go in the ocean if I was paid to!
