It’s been legally for decades. The State just wasn’t getting their cut
“Owning a car has always been legal. Using and selling a drug hasn’t been.”
Actually using and possession of drugs was legal up until the early 20th century. Where do you think Coca Cola got its name?

I’m not sure “legalizing” marijuana is the problem. No more than alcohol is a problem ..for most.
Its a control issue.
If you have a couple drinks at home on the weekend ..alcohol is not a problem.
If you start drinking the minute you wake up ...or, drink on the job..or, drink and drive everywhere you go...then alcohol might be a problem.
Likewise, if smokes a half a joint on the weekend ..at home ..is probably not cause for concern.
But if you are smoking the minute you wake up..or, on the job..and you smoke weed and drive...then marijuana might be a problem.
