Not having a fire-arm will not prevent an abusive spouse from murdering his ex for getting a restraining order. A baseball bat or knife is way more exciting an option, I would speculate. Make sure the abusee has a gun to equalize it a bit. Easy to make allegations and get a restraining order against the target, claim she threw something at you or hit you with a rolling pin. Then she’s disarmed and waiting for pappa to come home and finish her.
Sorry, but a restraining order isn’t sufficient to demonstrate that someone isn’t law-abiding or responsible.

For sure, people who commit murders that are “personal”, especially men, tend to not be afraid of getting their hands dirty, so to speak, with those kinds of methods. And yeah, if someone is planning on committing a murder, the prospect that they would also be violating a restraining order is no deterrent at all.
That might be the very thing that sets them off. “You b!tch with your restraining order! Restrain this!” A shoelace is a deadly weapon in the hands of someone who knows how to use it. Guns are more available in jurisdictions with “strict gun laws” than they are in lenient states, and forbidding him from getting a gun legally is a joke.
