Get a couple of friends and move them out! Why wait on police? I don’t believe one would get in trouble for manually evicting squatters. If I am incorrect in this assumption then something has gone horribly wrong with our system.

Classical music.

Horn speakers, very efficient, a few watts goes a long way.

The instructor for the CCL course I took in NC was a well known former law enforcement officer in the region and currently is a private security officer. In this state, he has identical law enforcement powers as any policeman or sheriff in the state.

Squatting in a residence is something that he talked about. The context of how it fit into the state CCL was what can a private citizen do to evict a trespasser from home or property. In NC the answer is not much. Call the police or sheriff and they won’t evict without a court order. Try to do it yourself and you’re likely to end up on the receiving side of some variety unlawful detention or assault charge.

The NC solution is to hire a private security officer. This isn’t cheap. They work for you. They have the power to arrest a squatter or trespasser on the spot, transport to jail and book them into jail on whatever charges fit the circumstances. YMMV…

We’ve got some hardware that gets rid of unwanted guests on demand. No police notification required.

Find a local biker gang. Make an eviction deal with them.

That would work. We have a dear friend whose husband was in a motorcycle gang (he passed about 5 years ago). He lived hard, in and out of jail over the decades. He always told me to give him a call if I had any problems with neighbors, and he would bring a bunch of his buddies on their bikes. Never had to call him, but appreciated the offer.

A long time ago when I lived in another neighborhood, a friend had a problem with a neighbor. He asked his biker gang friend for help, and a few of them got into the neighbor's home and cleared out the furniture. Neighbor came home to an empty home. He had no clue what happened, and no one got caught.

I know a landlord that rents crappy houses. As soon as they miss a payment he goes in and evicts them himself. He throws all their stuff in a dumpster. Changes the locks.

Those type of people don’t have the resources to sue him and it is cheaper that way anyway.

Most likely it’s due to time they “lived” there.

If it’s only a couple days or a couple weeks the laws don’t apply. But after 1 month or 2 months it’s an issue. So hotels don’t have that issue as they make you pay up front and they can’t afford a 1 month or 2 month stay.

Squatters don’t operate within the law, and the best solutions to squatters lie outside the law as well.

Hotel doors have electronic locks. IF you leave after 11am on your day of checkout your key no longer opens the door. They have a pass key that opens all doors.

Happened to me in Mexico. We asked for a late checkout for our room. They said no problem. We got back at 11:30 and the door would not open with our card key.

Yep, you’re right about the electronic locks. I stay at hotels enough and forgot about that.

We had a squatter move in to a rental the day after we left. Tore the place apart. The landlord blamed us despite the fact we had 15 people from church who helped us move and clean… they were out the door with us.
