The student debtors ought to sue for breach of contract. They were offered debt relief as a bribe, and they delivered their votes in the last election as agreed. The Biden administration ought to be required to fulfill the contract.

Best advice anyone ever gave me was “Avoid debt” and I took it to heart.

I’m 72. I have worked all my life, having been paying Social Security since I was 15 and have been saving and paying all my life. I went to state college on the GI bill and been self supporting my whole life. I am still working, mainly to help my grandkids, but I’ll be damned if I’ll give a nickel more voluntarily to parasites like this creep.

Cripes when did the parasites outnumber the contributors in this country?

The money they promised is not theirs to give. They should give them FTX stock certificates.

I went directly from college to the public school setting as a teacher. Newly-married, we delayed the start of having kids and we busted our tails to get that debt paid off. Thankfully, i didn’t have as much debt as I might have - as I did have a music scholarship. Still - the point is:

1 - pick a major where you have a high likelihood of gainful employment after.
2 - build skills before even going to college that can earn scholarship $$$
3 - If need be - work your way through college like many do -
4 - avoid debt by any. means necessary. BUT - if you still MUST take out a loan - only borrow what you absolutely must - and understand - you are obligating yourself to actually repay that loan.
5 - Don’t set your mind on a school that is “unobtainable” without massive debt. It really isn’t as important in most fields as some make it out to be to attend a “prestigious” institution. Instead - go where you can afford, and simply invest yourself in learning as much as possible.
