Trump will always be dependent on earning the votes of those who absolutely can't stand him, but who loathe his opponent even more.
It worked in 2016. Not so much in 2020.
Will it work in 2024? Who knows? But Trump (and many of his followers) seem determined to challenge the electorate by behaving as repugnant as possible while demanding, "You still gotta vote for me! What else are you gonna do?"

/DREW, if you don’t know that the 2020 election was stolen, then there is no hope for you.
Your read on Trump & the COVID situation does not align with the history of the situation.
1. Trump is a business man; businessmen solve problems. They get experts and put the experts to work.
2. The CDC & NIH are corrupt and have been for decades. Institutional physicians are inherently attracted to an easier life without patients who die and any other accountability. They are in a side branch and over the years the corrupt NIH have supported only the physician researchers who hewed to the party line. This directly lead to fraudulent research both for grant money & for stipends from those with something to gain from pushing results, ie Pharmy, Gates, China.
3. Trump is an honest man. The thief cries thief, the honest man expects that there is some meaning to being a renowned scientist in charge of departments for decades.
4. When all the Government scientist told Trump that we would lose millions of lives he went full in for the American people - “not on his watch”.
5. Trump handled the crisis with 110% of his talent, ingenuity, thinking outside the box & grit. He mobilized on multiple fronts. When he found the cupboards bare in the CDC, bare in the hospitals which had ignored the reports by the hospital inspectors he moved mountains to get supplies, PPE, built temporary hospitals, transformed ships into floating hospitals. Got the armed forces to help with manpower & expertise. Set up direct lines of coordination with every Governor and supply chains were run by the armed forces. There was complete accountability. Ventilators were manufactured, disinfectants were produced because of Trump working with companies that were not in those fields but were able to retool for the crisis.
6. Trump wanted to focus on cures, drugs that would save lives & shorten illness. From the beginning that was his focus. There were drugs available that had proven efficacy and drugs that were likely candidates. Many had been in use for decades and had few side effects, a high therapeutic index. Even the use of light for which he was ridiculed was already in use in extracorporeal applications and in the lung via bronchoscopy. Light disinfects but those who wanted to discredit Trump and those who stood to make fortunes by a vaccine ridiculed Trump by pretending he wanted people to drink bleach.
7.In a time of crisis two things are true. You cannot destroy people’s confidence in the medical establishment without something to put in it’s place. Secondly you must move ahead without the luxury of in depth analysis.
8. Trump put the American people first in all of the above. When the CDC, NIH put the kibosh on using the safe, effective drugs and told the President the expensive and untested drugs & vaccine were the best chance he did not have the personal knowledge or training to go against them. He was also a little slower to suspect what unprincipled, ignorant financially motivated sociopaths they were because that modus operandi is so outside of his own.
9. Nevertheless Trump resisted any and all pressure to mandate vaccines or treatment. He said that he thought the vaccines were of benefit. He is a layman and that is what he was told by the “leading experts”. He bragged that they were developed quickly because he facilitated the resources. Remember he was told millions of Americans would die and he moved heaven & earth to save them.
10. Trump was lied to by corrupt venial sociopaths and didn’t catch on for months. He was in a battle to protect Americans and didn’t have the education, training or information to uncover the lie earlier. He did in the end realize that Fauci, scarf lady & many others were charlatans, making the most of their opportunity for power, notoriety & financial reward without regard for the welfare of America or Americans.
It was a perfect storm created by Fauci, Gates, China, Big Pharmy and the press. Blaming Trump is revolting and a poor return for his unfaltering efforts to save Americans while protecting their rights to choose medical treatment and States rights over decisions about how to react to COVID. Expressing his opinions while leaving the States control is a good thing not reprehensible. Your suggestion that DeSantis is a better leader is wishful thinking based on very little time of trial. There are many flashes in the pan but only one leader who has delivered on promises, taken no personal gain and has continued during tremendous assaults to fight for the betterment of all Americans and for American safety, security & prosperity.

Our institutions are debauched, justice is politicized. And elections can get stolen, right? Didn’t Trump’s very own election get stolen right out from under his nose?
So why is Trump dumping on DeSantis instead of trying to help him win? The obvious answer it appears that Trump would prefer Charlie Crist as Governor of Florida, to sabotage DeSantis political future.
Is that what you want too? DeSantis to lose to Crist, and be destroyed just because “he wasn’t nicer to Trump?” He’s been a lot nicer to Trump than Trump has to him already.

1. You can’t explain why DeSantis should be nicer to Trump, that you demanded, when DeSantis not Trump is on the ballot Tuesday.
2. You can’t name anything Trump has done to help secure elections since his own election was stolen, so elections are again at risk of being stolen.
So let’s go ahead and get to the point you’re trying to run to, that DeSantis is a very powerful politician, who has done all the things necessary to secure the election in Florida, and will therefore win ina landslide due to his policies which have created a great movement even outside of Florida.
Clearly you want DeSantis to take his movement and hand it over to Trump. But what if DeSantis, and his movement, don’t think Trump is conservative or strong enough to deserve it being handed over to him?
Maybe DeSantis and his movement don’t agree with Trump on his support of LGBT policies. Maybe they don’t agree with Trump that these warp speed vaccines are as Trump said one of the greatest inventions of all mankind. Maybe they don’t agree that we need another 80 year old in the White House right now.
If that’s what they feel, why should they concede the DeSantis movement over to Trump?
Nah. DeSantis is a dark horse right now, increasingly aligned with the never trump axis. It is something to be aware of as boosters are trying to stampede the base towards him.
We have seen this many times. A personna is created and then taken over. The GOP-e have tried to push many trial balloons long since deflated: Nicky Haley, Mitt the Gyp, Jeb, Paul Ryan, Mia Love, Dan Crenshaw and a host of others. It takes some attention to detail & following the money trail to unmask these constructs. There is a lot of discussion as matters are threshed out.
