Actually, I’d have to check, but for the enhanced deduction, those might have to be donated in the US.

Except for no refunds on seasonal clearance items, electronics under certain conditions, etc. And the yearly inventory is already done for most stores. Word from a manager...

What could possibly go wrong with this plan?

How hard is it to have a “clearance” section in each store for unwanted goods. Offer the unwanted items at good prices and they will be gone. Problem solved.
To: plain talk
And the article said that the idea is only being “considered.” No such policy.

If you get your money back for the item you give to charity, you have no tax basis in that item.

I’ve had 2 items from Amazon where I was issued a replacement or refund & they did not want the item back - it was obviously cheaper for them then paying to have it returned.

Return everything, get everything free. Who thinks this will actually work?
Amazon has been doing this for years. The shipping cost for a reported defective item is not offset by deterred mischief.
I suspect that Walmart and Target will take customer information and decline returns if they smell regular abuse. I was in a Home Depot for an infrequent return when the customer in front of me was declined for that reason. He was trying to return a shopping cart of stuff.

So, I can buy a $500 TV from Wal Mart, say I want to “return” it, Wal Mart gives me $500, and I get to keep the TV. This sounds like a well-thought-out corporate strategy. It is if you paid $25 for the TV and it costs you $100 to repackage it for resale.

Amazon did something similar for me on a wrong item in the order. I ordered a $30 item and got something in the $300 range. They said to just keep it and shipped the correct replacement. I was considering keeping it without offering to return it, but it was some electronics which could be tracked if they thought is was stolen instead of misshipped.
I guess they figured return shipping plus inspection and testing was more expensive than they would get in their surplus sale for it.

There will be a presumption of honesty but if they see someone at same name/address doing tons of returns, the cash offer will not be provided.

Did you read the article? There is no policy.

I bought patio furniture from Overstock.com a couple
of years ago.I had to assemble it, and when it came to putting
the table together, the pieces wouldn’t fit.
I sent back the table, but not the chairs which I had
assembled first. The table was out of stock, but they gave me
a full refund and I kept the chairs.I found the table on another website.

Plus of course the manufacturer doesn’t want it back anyway. Nether does the distribution centers. Mucks up everything. Several times I have received products damaged in shipping they never want it shipped back because it was produced in China and what is the destitution center going to do with it.
Its much cheaper to just ship you another one. Nobody worry the markup on retail is plenty high to cover the cost.

Is there any doubt the people running these companies are not capitalists? Eff ‘em. If these policies go into effect, I will end my personal boycott of Walmart and Target. Daily trips are required to enrich myself while destroying these China loving bastards.
