I don’t think so, because Pope Francis is even taking issue with it now. I think whats going here is that some group of zealots on the American side of the church has gotten the bit between their teeth and they are like a runaway horse.
Biden is Catholic, DeSantis is Catholic, Pelosi is Catholic, but apparently they aren’t Catholic enough for the zealots. There was a big brouhaha about Pelosi receiving communion from the Pope. That seems a bit odd.

I’m unsure about DeSantis, but neither Biden, nor Pelosi, nor the Pope are Catholics because their church is no longer Catholic either! Do I need to explain the reason for that?

Zealots? Who are these zealots you’re referring to, and how do you define that word? Here, I’ll start your definition: Zealots are persons who... Now go on and finish that sentence!
Take your time, we’ll wait patiently!
Well, I doubt the Pope and the the church that has seen fit to elect and elevate him to the position would agree with you, and they have the keys and deeds to all the sanctuaries, the Vatican, and stuff. God has seen fit that this should be the case, so who are you to overrule all of that?
Perhaps in this case it might be a person who fails to understand that every single one of us, are reliant upon salvation by mercy rather than a strict observance of the law that none of us can hope to pass muster on. The devil plays gotcha on definitions, hoping to entrap, for far worse it to perish in the next world than to perish in this one.

Of course we are all reliant upon God’s mercy for salvation, but that doesn’t mean that every single one of us WILL be saved by God’s mercy. You need to pray to the Lord for the proper understanding of James 2:24-26 and accept the fact that no parsing of those Biblical passages by those who don’t like them changes what they so clearly say.
Protestants are so easily misled by smoke and mirrors so to speak, and that’s why every week some strange new sect comes out of nowhere. The bottom line is this: Anyone who thinks he’s going to be saved by God’s mercy regardless of how many of God’s commandments he or she transgresses will experience a terrifying surprise because John 5:26-30 applies to every single person, no exceptions.
They may not be catholic, but they do appear to be Catholic!
Matthew 7:1 my FRiend, and bear in mind that the United States is not a theocracy, the non-Christians do not recognize your theology as having anything to do with their lives.

It’s not MY theology Dearie, it’s God’s revelation concerning the eternal salvation (or damnation) of every person who’s been given the opportunity to be saved. Why have you referred to Matt 7:1? Smite me if I’ve ever judged anyone! On the other hand I do believe you’ve been rather harshly judging Fortes Fortuna Juvat!
Well go in peace, and may God have mercy on you

Dearie, I cannot “overrule” anything, but I most certainly can, praise Jesus, voice my opinion regarding that or any other issue under consideration! That is a God-given right that’s enshrined in the First Amendment to our Constitution!
And of course you have exactly the same right, so calm down!
I have very complicated feelings about ...... right now “
