I could not breastfeed. I tried, and my son was starving. My very pro breastfeeding pediatrician told us to immediately formula feed him. He had lost a pound his first week. He was crying constantly. My boobs were blocked up and hard and sore. I had a fever.

My heart goes out to you - I wish it had been easier for you - it was even hard reading. That said, in an emergency setting if a higher percentage of women were nursing, them women in your spot - women who really needed formula for their babies. would have formula available.

If women who could nurse would nurse - there would be more formula available for women like your sister.

Hopefully this shortage will be solved before it’s a life or death situation. Does anyone have a ‘recipe’ for baby formula - a balanced baby ‘drink’ made from common products? What did women use in the 1940’s? I suspect there’s solutions out there.

That sounds like mastitis. I got that twice when I was nursing my twins.

Lactose intolerance is for real. It’s common among people of asian descent and I have it. Too much dairy causes horrible stomach cramps, gas and diarrhea.
