Growing up in suburban Boston in the 50s and 60s there literally wasn't a single country music station on the radio.But a few crossover songs were played on Boston radio.Among my favorites is

Jimmie Dale Gilmore, is part of the 'Lubbock' sound in country music that I favor. Lot's of great ones in that group: Willie, Waylon being the two best known, but then there is a slew of others: Jerry Jeff Walker, Butch Hancock, Guy Clark, Joe Ely, Rober Earl Keen just to name a few.
