China could take Matsu and Quemoy Islands pretty quickly. But invading the main island of Taiwan itself would require a huge massing of ground forces in Fujian Province, and that has yet to happen.

Our previous President figured out how to deal with China. Get as much manufacturing out of the place, hit them with tariffs and take away its money stream. Combined with their own financial problems, they were being handled.

What stopped china so far is a threat to take out the Three Gorges Dam. I’m sure it is well protected but only one plane needs to get through to destroy it and take out a million chinese and destroy a major growing area below it. Imagine the pollution in the ocean if the dam is destroyed. No fish for a long time in South China Sea.
America won’t protect its own border why should I give a damn about some country thousands of miles away.
I’m not saying they will. I’m saying they could and not cause a lot of death and destruction in the process.

You beat me to it. Competent people like Trump coolly assess a crisis, then they make the best move possible. Incompetent people like Biden sometimes just sit and do nothing. That’s bad enough. But sometimes they wildly overreact. That’s worse.
Driving tanks across frozen ground is not the same as mounting an invasion across ninety miles of open ocean with a conscript army with minimal combat experience or with locally produced untested ships and jets. Its no means guaranteed success if and only if the people of Taiwan are willing to fight and sacrifice (mostly alone) for their freedom and way of life. That as you say is doubtful.
We are witnessing the death the Uni-polar USA hegemony world 1991 - 2022. RIP. We are back to a 19th century world of power and nation states.
On the bright side, globalism may be mortally wounded also. Perhaps its cousin wokism has been fatally wounded as well. No more random wars and color revolutions in places like Yemen and Somalia, followed by a half a million migrants showing up in your city.
