The Alameda Rail corridor was built specifically to route containers out of the port of Los Angeles/Long Beach

I don’t think rail companies have many options to re-route.

If they do, it will basically shut down LA Port.

They need to put mini guns on those trains and man them and liberally use them

if they are smart, they’ll abandon CA all together. Carb is putting together some absolute BS that will require their engines be equipped with OBD Devices that phone back to a CARB computer. Or pay insane fees to have each vehicle tested by CARB approved shops, twice yearly.

This applies to all Diesel powered vehicles over 15k lbs. Including Boats and Rail Engines. theres 3+ pages dedicated specifically to rail engines in their beta BS.

UP still has some steam engines they could use in California. That way they avoid the emissions testing.

Remember the days when you could sit at a crossing and watch the new auto’s go by ? Graffiti was a rarity.

Yep, hard to believe that cars were shipped in the open, not in completely enclosed railroad cards. And if you were stopped at a crossing you’d get to see the logos of dozens of different railroads, and as you say, no graffiti. The railroad police did not put up with crap back in the day. My uncle was a freight conductor for the U.P.

Don’t talk about it. Just do it.

Do it before one of your employees is murdered. It’s going to happen.

There is a prescient scene in the opening of Demolition Man where a helicopter officer says “Remember when they use to let commercial airlines land in this town?”

I lived close by the U.P. tracks. After one encounter with the U.P. police, I learned my lesson not to get caught in their right of way which is considered U.P. property.

One of my friends works a rail maintenance crew all over the nation. In California, near Compton, U.P instructs their employees them not to bother locking their vehicles because the windows will just get broken out when their cars get broken in to.

He also has stated multiple times that there is near constant gunfire in Compton.

My grandfather and uncles worked for U.P. Grandpa lived a few yards from the tracks. It was a small town where trains changed crews, so there were lots of tracks, a round house, and plenty of rail activity. My cousin and I played in and around the tracks all the time but never got hassled by U.P. police, in fact never saw them. But then, they might have known we were family.

I used to work for CSX. Used to be able to charge the thieves with a Felony, Burglary charge. Georgia legislature changed it to a misdemeanor since a rail car isn’t a home.

This stuff has been going on for decades.

Maybe it’s gotten worse, but when you elect radical Leftists to prosecute cases, these things tend to happen.

Some of these trains carry military equipment. Ammo and other ordinance. All sorts of stuff.

UP has an intermodal yard in Vegas. Start & end LA traffic there.

There is a route from Yuma to San Diego/Tijuana, but it is shut down right now. It needs major overhaul.

What’s to consider..unless UP would somehow lose a lot of money by doing so?
I imagine there is a lot more involved than rerouting?
