Hey, we all do it. I was an editor for 40 years and still make online mistakes. Back in the day, we had multiple levels of proofreading before anything went on press, where the costs to correct a print error were astronomical, especially if it was a 6-color job.
Because of individual technology, people who can type and hit “send” think they can write.
A couple of years ago, I read that the New York Times had let go of all its copy editors. Guess they think machine correction is adequate; but anyone who truly knows English is appalled at the errors that get published online, and even in print.
What I find interesting is that with very little effort, most people who write can eliminate 15-25% of their words and have much more clarity.
Totally agree. Up to a third, in some cases.
