Texas used to have a Texas State Army that morphed into the Texas State Guard.
In the seventies and at least early 80's were mostly out of state college students who then got in state tuition rates.
They were and are held in reserve for natural disasters.
They are in direct control of the Governor of Texas.
In the 70's they could get their own vehicle license plate that said Texas State Army...Pretty cool back then.
Now they're nothing like they were. They have zero combat arms, don't even have organizational weapons, and all they really do is function like a mini-State FEMA group. They assist with admin and a bit on natural disasters, but for the most part it's retired military and such that meet up on occasionaly weekends to have a bbq.
