Nitrogen for my hay field was 50% more expensive this year compared to last year. It is obviously driving up my break-even cost. I sell only to close-by neighbors for their horses and cows.

The manager at our farmers COOP here in North Alabama called me several weeks ago and said if you can Buy next year’s fertilizer now you need too. He went on to say that if he has any next spring your not going to be able to afford it. I dropped about 4k on fertilizer that is now filling up one of my greenhouses, no win situation. Get prepared fruit and vegetables prices are going to double or triple next Spring. FJB

Yet we still burn food in our automobile engines.

Time to stop the mandated use of ethanol in gasoline. It reduces gasoline mileage and simultaneously increases food prices. LET THE MARKET DECIDE, NOT THE GOVERNMENT!

Why? Because, as the great philosopher Ringo Starr once said, “Everything that the government touches turns to shit.”

Thanks for the first hand info. Looking at a lot of the supply chain issues, it seems like a raw materials problem is the issue. The question is why?

Potash exports from China are now restricted to national use only.

During the Munder Solar Minimum, there are droughts and resultant food shortages.

I believe China is doing al they can to feed people by using a key component of making fertilizer only internally.

We use a lot of limestone riprap on jobs

We were getting prices for our annual maintenance contracts in local counties

The quarries lock us in on price for the year, but further questioning of the salesman, he admitted that they likely with raise the rates in 6 months

So, we had to bump our price to local governments to cover our butts

Trickle up costs

Thanks Joe

I’ve thought that, if nation states considered all out war a distinct possibility, that they would hoard certain materials in anticipation, and it would be done as quietly as possible.

Maybe I’ll save the old water from my aquarium water changes and put it on eBay. It’s full of nitrogen. Problem solved! 🤣

No problems with potash or phosphate mining in the US, it’s the nitrogen. Nitrogen production requires natural gas, so you can hang this albatross around the idiot residents neck.
