And I will point out that Mao Zedong more or less told Noxious Nixon that China would survive a nuclear war based on its enormous population while the USA would be depopulated entirely. Emperor Xi sees him self as the Second Coming of Mao ... So it depends on who is doing the option picking.

I’m not naive, and am not ignorant of the facts (24 years in the Navy, including flying fighters on deployments to the Western Pacific & Indian Ocean).
I think the economic sanctions would be enough, and shootdowns or blockades not needed. The credible threat must be there, though.
Xi and his henchmen are international gangsters, but they’re not stupid. Their economy is more vulnerable than most realize, and they don’t want a depression on their hands, nor do they want to be incinerated in a nuclear war. Constant pressure such as Trump imposed is needed. Otherwise we can just curl up under our beds and suck our thumbs.

My response was to the logical outcome proposes by the other poster, no necessarily to any thoughtful responses. China will not go to war with anyone in its current state, despite the much hyped military build up.
War with anyone would expose the PLA as a weak, ineffective, inefficient, war machine composed of snowflake troops ; the CCP would face an internal revolt at the same time for lack of any social safety net to make up for loss to families of fallen troops’ incomes.

Amazing how much authority business owners have in the Land Down Under, being able to tell the cops and military what to do. I thought that authority was in the elected officials. Go figure, they do things different down there.
On a side note, do you live in the US?
The only time I know the military was used that is noted below was in Sydney when they had the major outbreak and for a couple of days they had a curfew until they could find out where the virus was spreading. One big area of minorities (Muslims) were not obeying the curfew. It is easy to use Youtube to make your arguments. I can post a 100 youtubes of riots and looting in the USA and say that the USA is a totally crime-ridden place and people are crazy to stay anywhere in the USA.
