I would never want to drive some ancient relic from the past except in a 4th of July parade. My current generation Chevy Silverado is so much more refined. And when it comes to towing technology, it just can't be beat. Hooking up a trailer is a cinch with hitch guidance and the downward looking camera. A press of the button on the infotainment screen starts the light test that checks all the lights, including turn signals and brake lights. The integrated TPMS displays the trailer tire pressure and temperature on the infotainment screen. The integrated trailer brake controller gain is displayed on the driver information center every time I hit the brakes. If someone tries to steal my trailer, it sets off an alarm as soon as someone disconnects the 7 pin from the truck. And that's just trailer stuff.
I like having my LED lights, automatic dual-zone climate control, heated and ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, memory function seating and all the other creature comforts. If I remote start the truck during winter it turns on the heater, the heated seats and the steering wheel heat. In the summer a remote start will turn on the air conditioning. I like the safety of the blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, electronic stability control, antilock brakes, front and side airbags. I like the convenience of a fob I never need to take out of my pocket. Each door has its own button on the door handle, so I can lock and unlock the truck from any door. I like the convenience of pushbutton start and stop. The power down/up tailgate is also a nice touch. And the 6.2L engine with 10 speed transmission is so much better than some ancient V8 with a three speed transmission. I'll take my new truck over some 50 or 60 year old truck any day of the week.

I bought a minimal mileage used Honda August 2020. Same model, same specs would cost me 4000 more today. Checking out Autonation on certain models. It seems they have half the inventory they had in August 2020. This whole Covid affair is messing up world economies. The Chinese included seem to have Covid problems killing their production of X,Y and Z. They tossed a conniption fit and banned Australian coal. This killed their electrical outputs for industry. They had some blackouts. They have recently unbanned it.

Buddy and me stuck a 392 hemi into a 57 chev two door hardtop.
All it would do is spin. Could not get that rear end to sit down. Traction bars, big slicks, you name it. Called the push button automatic the select-o-spin.

That is primarily because of the chip shortages. The auto manufacturers have huge lots filled with assembled vehicles that lack the chips to control the electronics. Any shortage in aluminum will probably not be felt for quite a while in the auto market, as the manufacturers will have a big backlog of vehicles waiting for chips for quite some time. You will start seeing reductions in vehicle production simply because they will run out of room and money to keep storing partially finished vehicles...
Great idea but good luck finding a 60s-70s era vehicle in good shape.
I left out a lot of things. But yes, Apple CarPlay is awesome. And I don't even use it to its fullest potential. I use it primarily for navigation. It's so much easier that using the onboard navigation system and the display is much much better.

It has a very crude computer in the ignition module and it originally had plenty of Mexican parts in it when built and since then nearly every replacement part has been made in China.
Sorry but you got plenty of chink parts on it.
Oriellys absolutely destroyed the auto parts industry with there cheap Chinese crap. Others were doing it before them but they pushed it all the way.
Most of the Caterpillar parts I see these days are Chinese as well.
Disgusting.
Trying to rebuild anything with good quality parts is almost impossible.
