Most automobiles built before about 1976 do NOT have solid state ignition. Ignition for them is distributor, points and condenser.
About the only transistors found in old cars were in the radios.
Yes, modern engines have more fuel efficient ignition but they all need computer chips. Also, a lot of other circuits in modern cars also need chips.
Without functioning chips, modern vehicles are worthless junk.
I can fix my car, just I had to buy a laptop, OBDII interface and software to do it.
Also a factory manual and internet connect for Youtube videos.
Also amazon, and various other parts suppliers to get your tools, parts, and supplies.
But I live in VERY rural Hawaii, so it out of necessity for me.
The closest dealer to me for my Ford or Mazda is 45 miles away. We don’t even have a VW dealer here.
I don’t think we have a Chevy dealer here either.
I’m just a 21st Century back yard mechanic. Get with the times.
