This is where we differ. I would be very surprised/shocked if we tried to create an incident to keep our troops there longer than necessary, i.e., to cover the evacuation. I fully expect us to close the Embassy now that the destruction of classified information and communications equipment is well underway.

In the coming weeks we will see the Taliban roaming the halls of the Chancery building. Our negotiators in Doha will try to head that off by offering the Taliban all kinds of concessions not to occupy the Embassy compound. It didn't work in Tehran. The Taliban want total humiliation of the US.
