This is a case of the feds politicizing a state holiday that no one ever had any problem with in Texas where it meant something.

Hardly anybody ever heard of it and hardly anybody ever cared about it. The entire celebration is a nothingburger. At the most it might be celebrated in a small corner of Texas but not our entire country.
Unfortunate. Perhaps it should have been anticipated when an event celebrating black emancipation attracts large groups of blacks gathering. Inevitably young males who are not properly socialized will get into disagreements which may end in violence. Short tempers with no concept of self discipline rules the day.

Can anyone direct me please to the Declaration of Independence of Negro slaves, on June 19th and does anyone know who signed this document and what became of those who signed. ? Frederick Douglass said that ultimately it was the negro slaves who would need to raise up against their slave holders..not not wait for some other culture to come and set them free.

HISTORY: Not all slaves were freed by the Emancipation Proclamation, nor via Juneteenth. Only the slaves of the REBEL states were freed then. Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation was a wartime effort to split and weaken the South; he did NOT free any slaves in the Northern states. Slaves in the non-rebelling border states had to wait for the 13th Amendment, effective December 18, 1865.
