What current Federal holiday are they dropping to institute “Juneteenth”? Or are they just adding it to the current list?
Just read the article after posting....
We forgive you but the Black Caucus will assess you and your relatives double reparations. We all make mistakes.
We can’t bring back President Lincoln’s Birthday as a federal holiday because he was a white male chauvinist racist who probably helped found the KKK.
How did Lincoln “probably helped found the KKK” you ask. If he had never been president, then the civil war may not have happened and slavery would not have ended, thus there would have been no need for the KKK. (just trying to get modern woke history correct here)
When it wasn’t federalized no one would’ve celebrated Juneteenth on anything but June 19th just as they would only celebrate New Year’s Eve on December 31st.
Deleware kept their own slaves in bondage 6 more months.
Deleware, the Joe Biden State.
Umm...that’s “Saturdeenth”.
Juneteenth is a part of Texas history.
If they are going to take part of our history and nationalize it, they should make April 21st a national holiday.
General Sam Houston defeated the dictator of Mexico, Santa Ana at the battle of San Jacinto. That freed up a lot of real estate that was claimed by Mexico at the time.
But we are talking about democrats in charge here, so now everything is racial. Some one is getting paid in all this.
Where I went to high school where the “doctor” taught 12th grade English when I was in 12th grade…
If they really wanted to celebrate the day they should give all blacks the day off and make everyone else go to work...

Another holiday that only government employees get off.
Stupid holidays for $400, Alex.
Should be the same for veterans day. I can’t even get it off due to seniority, but a lot of non Veterans with seniority get the day off.
Finally!
A day of celebration when Republicans freed slaves from their Democrat owners.
Now the federal government employees get 12 three day weekends a year, fully paid. I expect a check in the mail every month from this govt for the weekday that the fed govt workers get paid not to work. Fair is fair. And I want my check to be based on the highest payscale used to determine the pay for every single elected individual who voted for this latest paid holiday. I see every tax payer as being a govt employee and legally entitled to this monthly bonus.
The only real problem I have with this is they want to call it “Juneteenth National Independence Day.”
Note that we already have an Independence Day, celebrated on the Fourth of July.
Is this to supplant or confuse on the real Independence Day? Will some people be celebrating July 4 and others celebrating June 18 in a further division of the country?
Unfortunately, I could see this turning into Red State Independence Day and Blue State Independence Day. It’s also rather silly in those places that never had slavery and weren’t even part of the U.S. when it ended. We could start with Hawaii and Alaska, for example.
Time Magazine recently said that there is nothing to celebrate about Texas independence.
This is stupid. Juneteenth isn’t even emancipation day. Juneteenth was a day a couple of years after emancipation when the news finally arrived at a community of slaves around Houston.
These people are blithering ignorant and proud of it !
If they want to have a national holiday it should be the adoption of the 13th (maybe also the 14th & 15th) Amendments. The 13th abolished slavery, the 14th granted citizenship, 15th granted voting rights. Juneteenth as you say was just a local holiday. It’s up to Houston and maybe Texas to make a big deal about it if they want to but its certainly NOT NATIONAL !
