Not lazy. Just not paying back a $39000 loan (see above) at more than $5 a month (Income based repayment) until they eliminate the H1B program and I can get gainfully employed in the US. Foreign income, even if earned while sitting in my apartment in Colorado - is exempt.

The $5/ month prevents my passport from being revoked - under Obamacare, passports will not be issued/ renewed for anyone defaulting on a student loan.

And to all of you who didn't choose to go into debt, but instead worked a part-time job and/or scrimped and saved:

SUCK-KERS!

Not saying student loans aren’t part of the problem, but Cost of School (including tuition) is too high.

You're getting it backwards: Tuition is high BECAUSE govt.-guaranteed loans are available.

The existence of govt.-backed loans encourages learning institutions to boost their tuition.

We have a generation of kids who will be delayed in getting married because of this debt.

Did you get a gander of that image of "Jess and Arielle" above (second from the top)?

If they delay in having kids, it'll only because the turkey baster isn't working.

College prices have outrun the inflation rate for about 3 decades. A real scam.

Attributable entirely to the existence of govt.-underwritten student loans.

I have $39000 [in debt] from a $1000 loan I took out for a correspondence school I finished only 1 month of when I was 18 in the US Army in 1983/4 (Battery NCO didn’t approve of any soldier going to school on off-time, so I had to drop.) as an 18 year old you don’t think about things like that. Nothing for 36 years. No letters, nothing on my FICO. Got a call from Allied Interstate/ Navient in 2020. They wanted $1600 a month or an immediate wage garnishment for 15%. Judgement now on my FICO report. FICO score went from 720 to 520 overnight. Luckily unemployment is not garnishable, and but can never remove it through bankruptcy

So, who - in your opinion - should be "on the hook" for this loan which you voluntarily incurred 36 years ago? You, yourself? Or other uninvolved taxpayers?

I have a 22-year-old daughter who - at her own insistence - moved out immediately after high school graduation (she was Valedictorian) and moved into an apartment with two other girls (students). She's now in her eighth semester at a university in Europe. (Yes, she changed majors twice - because she was disgusted by the degree to which the Philosophy faculty was infiltrated by unrepentant leftists.)

Besides the $120 she allows me to transfer to her bank account each months, she accepts nothing from her parents.

She is very concerned about her educational future as well as about her future career.

No debt, though.

These deadbeats need to pay their loans off or go to debtor’s prison.
——————-

Ah just like the Muslim Middle East in Dubai. Tens of thousands in prison for debt. You would like that.

Why don’t you move there or plan to join the 21st Century?

I’ll gladly pay it. If and only if they remove the Indian H1B and other Indian visa scumbags from the US and give Americans a chance at real middle class jobs at real middle class wages.

I’m sure in the effk not working a menial labor job to pay it off. Other loans for all other sources except student loans have a statute of limitations and can be discharged in bankruptcy.

But you want a permanent underclass unable to get gainful employment in the US, I suppose. Allows more Indians to be brought it.

If you are in default in any student loans, all transcripts from all schools - whether you owe money to those schools or not - are withheld, per ObamaCare regulations.

Hope you never have to file bankruptcy. Maybe you will get you wish and add jail time for anyone filing for bankruptcy in the US.

Are you willing to jail between a 1/2 million and 3/4 million people per year?

“I always thought a STEM degree was the “right” degree”

Most people consider a STEM degree a real, valuable education. You are at least qualified to “do” something, vice merely “emoting.”

My hat’s off to you.

Ending the H-1b visa would be the greatest help to these young people even more so than repaying loans.

No time for keggers or spring break to Cabo.

Keggers were plentiful in college, but 4 days of my spring break were spent at North Fort Lewis for ROTC Spring Camp. LOL, the water temperature at Lake Lewis that time of years was probably in the 50s.

No regrets, the Army paid my way through college, and I graduated in 4 years with zero student debt, and my parents didn't have to pay a dime to help. I paid for my room and board with my summer job as a forest firefighter in California.

Pisses me off to no end that Americans with the “right” degrees can not get gainfully employed.

Yeah screw all the “studies” degrees. They deserve to be unemployed.

With all the H1Bs and OPTs getting the jobs after graduation, is it any wonder Americans are shunning the hard-core degrees?
