They were down previously mostly due to the shrunken economic activity from less travel and the lockdowns.
It was inevitable as the economy picked back up that gas prices also would rise.
Supply and demand.

It was well under $2.00 in Jersey until the governor decided it needed to be taxed more. Around election day it was about $2.15-$2.25. Now it is $2.69-$2.79 and rising.
