Overwhelming scientific consensus against Galileo. The arguments were actually really good based on the science then.

If I recall correctly, the problem was that Galileo assumed circular orbits. Circular orbits do not fit the observations that anyone can make. Also, Galileo was an ass. If he'd been more polite to folks with whom he disagreed, he would have had less issues.

No,
The top notch scientists of Galileo era argued that if Earth moves around the Sun, then an observer on Earth should see the star making apparent small yearly circular movements, so called parallax. The same movements are easily observed on planets and led to Copernicus theory.
But nobody could measure anything like this on stars. The only explanations were that either, the stars are too far from us so the parallax is too small to be observed or that indeed Earth is the centre of the universe.
Most scientist could not believe that the stars are so far and even if they did, they argued that in this cause the stars would be of an incredible size. The stars in telescopes are observed as small so called Airy disks due to optical properties. This was not known so people believed the stars are actually that size. With calculated minimum distance, they would be of incredible size! So most scientists rejected heliocentrism theory. By the scientific knowledge of Galileo time, this was really the only acceptable theory.

By the way, the parallax is now routinely measured by e.g Hipparcos satellite. This is actually the best way of measuring distances to nearby stars. But the scientists of Galileo time has no way to measure that. And the improved optical theories explained that Airy disk are imaginary. optical illusion.

Science is NOT an overwhelming consensus of scientists. Science is quest for truth! All famous scientists are famous because they went against overwhelming consensus in some way! Just validating an existing consensus will not give you Nobel prize in any science!
Global warming is a present day Lysenko theory. His theories were enforced by Stalin so they were supported by “overwhelming scientific” consensus (you went to Gulag if you disagreed!). Result was an incredible damage to socialist agriculture!
