Not sure if I'm right, but I view it this way. If during 2020 - after nearly four years of public savaging of the POTUS, fresh off an impeachment, and amid constant cries of how this Trump dude is laughing while he kills off thousands of elderly citizens - you agree to register as a Republican, I'm thinking you're inclined to show up and vote Republican.
Even so, I hope these people are all known in the database of the GOTV efforts...200k new GOP voters would make a huge difference they if all show up...not just at the Presidential level, either. They could make the difference in at least one close House race there.
